Opening of the Gallo-Roman garden in Sisteron

Located halfway up the slope between the old town of Sisteron and the banks of the Durance, the Gallo-Roman garden welcomes you for a moment of discovery and relaxation in the midst of vegetation with over 100 species.

Developed on a disused site that was once occupied by vegetable gardens, the garden has taken advantage of all the richness of the place: a reservoir that collects rainwater and now feeds the fountain, a large fig tree under which it is pleasant to rest, and a small belvedere offering a privileged view of the Baume rock

Complementing the nearby museum, the garden offers an exploration of the plants used in the Gallo-Roman era.

Plants had many functions, including food, decorative, medicinal, religious, and providing materials for daily life. These plants are grouped into thematic beds according to their uses.

The space is also structured around elements typical of ancient garden architecture; pergolas, fountains, and water paths, a small amphitheater...

The garden is dotted with structures inspired by mythology, plants, and Gallo-Roman objects, created by a contemporary ceramic artist. A mosaic, made from real antique shards, also adorns the garden.
